hi all, could some of you kind vette owners please post some site addresses
of supplyiers of after market rear wings/spoilers that would fit my C3
78 model thru early eighties, so i can track down one i seen on a recent 76
that made the trip across to aus. the owner said it was part of a package
from a dealer in he thought from chicargo.
thanks in advance regards ernie.

I don't have website addy's handy, but you could check out the 'big' Corvette catalogs to see what they have available. I also recall Vanacor Corvette parts had a good selection of hoods, valances and wings. Perhaps also The Last Detail would be a good resource to check out...

I have seen a pic of a 78SA with a rear wing and I want one just like it!

I know of two rear wings that will fit the 78.
The first is the 1978 Pace Car spoiler package. That has a lower front valance and the rear wing is solid and rakes backward at the rear of the vette.
The second one is one I saw in a pic of a 78SA and it appears to be the 1982CE rear wing. That one is a flat wing with a slight flip up at the very back and the sides curving over the top edge just a bit, attached by two short support pillars so air can flow both over and under.
Happy shopping!
Heidi

Mine has the Pace Car kit on it. However, I don't know where it came from. It was there when I bought it.

rear spoilers /wings for 78

heidi,
thanks for the info, the second one you describe sounds spot on.
i have been looking for 12 months now and finally looks like ive found it.
please help as i have been checking web sites till my eyes go blurry[this has nothing to do with that other nasty affliction] and could really do with the help
regards ernie

Hi Ernie,
The second one I described is the one I want for my 78. I saw it in a Corvette Parts catalog picture. The catalog was either Ecklers or MidAmerica and the photo was depicting the decals available for the 1978 Pace Car and Silver Anniversary vettes. The 78SA in the photo had the flat wing that I want so badly!

However, safety and dependability before cosmetics...unless I happen to come into a windfall of money. If you happen to find and install one before me, you must send me pictures. Not to rub it in or anything...but definitely to let me see how cool it looks!

need more help

hi heidi,
am still searching for that wing. could you please check out the ACI web store@http;//www.acivette.com/ and tell me if you think that one of these is the one you are thinking of also. there is a silver one with decals that may be the one , but i am still not sure.
hows the run in process going after the rebuild. is your silver an L82 same as mine. my annie is right hand drive of course, and i dont know if the conversion,
is the reason it doesnt handle as well as it might , or am i expecting to much
from a car 25 years young. she also gets a vibration thru the gear shift that starts around 70 mph. being yours is the same car your feed back would be appreaciated.
regards ernie.

I'll check out acivette later today and let you know about the wing pics.

My 78 was a California L48 with the lowest hp, around 165?, or so. We have since installed a GM crate engine rated at 250hp, recently tore it down to freshen it up and reassembled it with better breathing heads. Right now the carb is in Texas getting rebuilt...so I'm about halfway through my break-in period.

As for vibrations at road speeds...mine has none that I'm aware of, however I rarely drive at 70mph. If you are having vibes you should check everything between the road and car...tires, alignment and suspension. My bushings will be replaced this fall/winter, the originals are, well...the originals. :D But I still experience no vibrations like you describe.

Good luck with your 78SA, and I'lll get back to you after I check out that site.

Dude...Hugs & Kisses for you!!!! :J

acivette.com HAS THE SPOILER WANT!!!!! And they even have it to specifically fit our sloped rear vettes without the 80-82 flip-up.
FWF040 74-79 LT style rear wing. That is the one! I'm gonna give them a call right now, later! ;)
Heidi

Heidi,

Did you get it? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm looking at the pace car spoiler or rear bumber cover change and adding the air dam to the front of the car to square it off like the later C3's.

Still working on Kenny. I'm hoping to wear him down soon. :D
It will be about $400 with shipping and we need to make sure we have the funds for the barn covered before I buy goodies for the 78.

heidi, glad to here youve found the wing you were chasing,
good luck with the arm twisting. the wing you have picked doesnt have a
picture of it on a car so im not sure if its the one im looking for, so if you
happen to come up with one please post it on the site, for that matter
if any other 78 owners have some pics of their rear wings would appreciate the pics.
with the vibration it comes back thru the gear shift when backing off the
pedal to slow down. have new telon bushes thru front end+new shockies+
new tyres ,recently balanced and alignment is good.
does anyone know if it could be gearbox bearings or maybe uni joints.
thanks for the feedback regards ernie.
