Does anyone have a solution for rearview mirror slip on my "97"?
Every time I go over a slightly rough part of the road the rearview mirror slips down, so I have to constantly re-adjust it. Or is this just a problem with the C5 and its stiff supension????????

I don't have a solution for you, but wanted you to know that you are not alone! I have a bit of mirror "slip" on my 2000, and noticed it even more on my '98. Do you see it more on rough roads, or is it aggressive acceleration that does it...? ;)

Mirror Slip

fhtuner!
I get mirror slip from either/or, aggressive acceleration and rough roads.
Iwas hoping there was some kind of adhesvive that would hold it in place but still allow you to adjust it, if need be.

I'll look in my service manual tonight for any info about adjusting the stiffness of the mirror's pivot joint. I need to look something else up for another thread also, so I'll see if I can figure both things out tonight.

Well, I took a quick look at my manuals, and only found info about replacing the entire rearview mirror assembly. There might be some other info in there about adjusting it, but I could not find it last night. I will take a little more thorough look when I get a chance and let you know if I find anything.

Thanks for your efforts, I will check around to see if anyone around here has any solutions.

C5d,
Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a try and let you know how it works.

In the old days, they used to have a 2 sided pivot and a screw you could tighten to keep it snug. Mine falls too, but its a solid shaft and press fitted now. I may try drilling a hole thru shaft at the ball without going into it. Then putting a small machine screw in the hole to tighten on the ball itself.

86 targa,
Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried c5d's suggestion of dimpling the upper and lower adjustment balls with a spring loaded metal punch I have. This causes additional friction and seems to have solved the problem for the time being. I will drive it for a while and let you all know how the "fix" works in the long run.

Fixed Mirror slip!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been over a week since I tried dimpling the mirror scocket balls and I have had no more slip since, even after running all of the same rough roads that gave me the problem before.
Thanks to c5d for the suggestion that worked.
