As many are aware, I'm in the middle of a rebuild for an 81.........actually nearing the end :) and getting ready for the dyno before install. Pulled the original block on Sunday and getting ready to crate it for storage.

I got my heads the other day, AFR 195's :D and now it's time to buy the rest of the odds and ends. I need help with the ignition system. I am looking at MSD and have heard good and bad things about them. The motor is a 388 and I would like something that can connect directly to a laptop for advance and retard and understand that MSD has this type of system, does anyone have experience with these and how reliable/hard to use they are?? part numbers etc would help as well.

Damper: I've had the engine internally balanced and am toying with a fluid damper and elastomer strips but am concerned about the "break down" of the damper at RPM and am wondering is solid dampening better........any thoughts/experience with these?

Thanks.

i would run the fluid damper. two reasons why. it has better dampening effects than stock units, and most importantly it will not slip the outter ring and give you false timing readings. as for ignitions, i run an MSD pro-billet with 6AL. there are all kinds to choose from and it's up to you. the probillet is easy to change curves and amounts of mechanical and vacuum advance.
