Anyone got a ballpark on what it will cost to rebuild my engine. Nothing fancy .... just stock.

I had my engine rebuilt about 3 months ago.I modified it a little.Raised compression and a performance cam. With a total refreshment of the components around the engine it cost me about 4K.

If your going to have somone else do it try and have a Corvette shop do it if possible. The shop I had do it didn`t get the electrical and charging reinstallment right and it cost me some headaches. They used the excuse that these cars are a electrical nighmare. They failed to tell me that until afterwards though.:r

Unless there is some reason you want to keep it numbers matching a crate engine will probably be less and come with a better warranty. Even if you want to keep numbers matching, you can always store the original engine.

Bobchad-Good point,I would have went with a crate myself if I wasn`t in California.I had to take sort of a middle road between performance and still be legal.

I'd like to take credit but its just another one of those pearls of wisdom I have read here.

Trust me, Alabama is a beautiful state havin lived there myself, but when it comes to government they ain't no California (and that is a good thing)

General Motors offers a new engine for about $1800 and a rebuilt one for $1500. most good dealerships will install that engine for an additional $1000. it is somewhere between 210-250 hp depending on what you have for exhaust and intake. i believe either motor also has a 3 year / 50,000 mile warranty. so depending on your ability to do the work yourself, it will cost from 2-3 grand. most shops will rebuild your stocker for about $3500. this route leaves you with the correct numbers engine in the car, your call. good luck, Brian

iam in the middle of rebuilding my 82
i baught a stroker kit with crank for 1,000 it came with everyhting but the connecting rods
it even gave me a cam selection which is great because i had a bunch of head work done also
after it is all said and done i will probily have 5 k into the engine which i dont think is too bad and i have never herd anything bad about northern
