I may have bit off more then I should have but during the winter months, I decided to rebuild my Q-jet. But what the hey, what else do I have to do in the middle of winter?

After 28 years of use, the carb has a good amount of carbon and other gunk in it. I used high quality carb cleaner and tried not to clean the parts that the manual said not to. I was very meticulous with the dissemble and reassemble. Made sure not to turn any unnecessary screws.

Now that it is starting to warm up I went out and fired her up. She runs well until the choke opens up completely. She will start to kick a little then just dies. She will start back up but she will not idle.

Any recommendations of where to start? Idle screw, mixture, timing, yada, yada.

:confused

My best guess is vaccuum leaks at the carb base plate. I'd start the car with the air cleaner off and put your hand over the air horn, to prevent air from entering there. If it runs better or doesn't die, then the carb is getting air from somewhere that it should not.
