I live between Cleveland and Toledo....literally tie a string between them and I am 30 miles west of Toledo. Has anyone out there used a shop to rechrome parts that they felt good enough to recommend?

Also, what kind of prices did you have to pay?

regards, Herb

not having any luck in northern Ohio....someone has suggested to me NuChrome. According to their show schedule they will be at all Carlisle events....anyone have experience with them?

wow...turns out that Custom Plating is literally right around the corner from me....in Grafton Ohio......called the guy on the phone...might take a run over to see him tomorrow with a bumper off the car and see what kind of $$$ he is talking....but over the phone he was sounding REALLY EXPENSIVE.......but need to find out....I was hoping to get this done realtively inexpensive...right off the bat he was pointing me to buying new in that it would be less expensive than rechroming with them.

We'll have to see!

thanks for the suggestions...anyone else got some????

Due to EPA regs, the cost of materials & labor, etc, he's right... it often is cheaper to buy new, especially if the part needs any repair work in addition to chroming. If you have rare or irreplaceable parts, or if you want high quality chrome work, quality costs more. With that vendor, at least you'll save a bit on shipping. Check prices with more than one vendor.

Here's a couple more in your general part of the country:

http://www.paulschrome.com/ PA
Danny Kilburn 731-632-0101 TN
Frankfort Plating 817-841-9875 PA (good, but slow)

What's the old saying? something like "Quality
is remembered long after the price is forgotten"

Don't know of ANY shops anywhere in the USA where you can get quality plating done inexpensively. If you find one, please let me know!! In a lot of cases, it IS cheaper to buy new rather than re-plate; however, some of the new stuff is done overseas & the quality of the materials and of the plating is not on par with the original stuff. Not all, but some.

One consolation in all this, if replating steel seems expensive, try getting a quote on replating some of the old pot metal parts that were plated on some of the early cars!!

Best of luck to you, hope it all works out!!
