Ouch. %&$@%^$! Today a woman hit my '58 (early, #378) in the right rear exhaust/bumper, mangled the fibreglass back there and bent the bumper and its' supports. Pushed the bumper up and forward, looks mildly twisted. Possibly damaged exhaust and/or muffler - need to get it on a rack to tell.

My insurance is with Hagerty. :confused Do you folks have recommendations for a good C1-aware body-work shop (glass, paint, bumper chrome, brackets) in the Los Angeles (southwest - I'm in Rancho Palos Verdes) area? I want to maintain originality and not lose judging points due to this mishap.

Thanks, ... Al 1958 :cry

Is The Fiberglass Body in Hawthorne close enough for you? The owner, Scott Kenning, is a friend of mine and has been in business for over twenty-eight years. His shop has been featured in a few magazines.

He does good work, and is well versed when it comes to dealing with insurance claims. Check him out.

Can't vouch directly for them, but here are some possibilities:

Corvette Shop 16152 Valerio, Van Nuys 818-901-8388

Fiberglass Body, 4527 W. Rosecrans Ave #A, Hawthorne 310-332-8745

J&D Corvette, 9833 Alondra, Bellflower 800-838-8353

L.A. Corvette Works 1062 W. Martin Luther King Blvd, 213-234-0345

Could you please do me (and possibly others) a favor and once the paperwork on your "tragedy" is done, give your opinion of how helpful (if involved) the Hagerty company was? I too have them for my '58 and while I haven't had the misfortune of needing them, it would be nice to know how good/bad they are. Thanks, and good luck with the repairs......

Al, I don't know if you decided on a shop as yet, but I will echo Ken's comment about the The Fiberglass Body. I have not had any work done there yet, but I was next door getting some mechanical stuff done. I had an opporuntity to ask Scott a question about some clips on my 62 'Vette. He looked, knew exactly what I needed, as well, told me what had been done to my car historically! The man's amazing! He knows it all.

I also live in RPV. If I can help you with a ride down there, let me know. harold@vatcher.com
