Relocation Of Alternator To Passenger Side

what's the problem? I did this years ago to clean up the power steering pump. Just move it over to the other side and extend the wires. As for mounting it is simple to fabricate your own mounts.
Really makes the power steering pump easier to get at.

Good point! It may simply be stretched belts or wrong one put on at some point in the past 32 years.

How about a picture so I can see how you did it

This was done 13 years ago, before the blower but it was simple to build my own mounting brackets
This picture won't help you much

What a beast, what did you use for the bottom

The bottom is a long threaded rod that goes into one of the threaded holes in the head . You use a long bolt in the head, a spacer to space the alternator at the correct distance and a nut after mounting the alternator or just a long bolt which I do not like threaded directly into the head with the spacer.
The holes in the head are for mounting accessories, use one of them.

New Development

The holes on the right head are a different thread size than my Left, this also means the alternator hole will have to opened up to accomidate the larger bolt.FEEDBACK

I had some major issues with my power steering pump and alternator. I'm not sure how the LS5 is set up, but the LS4 has the alternator sitting almost right on top of the PS pump. At some point, my alternator belt was replaced (before I bought the car) with a belt that was too small. This pulled the alternator over as far as it could go towards the center of the motor. It also covered completely the PS pump. I could not even get my hand in to open and fill the pump.

I found this out when my pump came lose, and the belt shredded. Turns out I was missing a mounting bolt on the PS pump. I figured since I had everything off, I would replace all the belts. When I came back from the store and measured the two alternator belts with one another (the old and new), I was shocked to see the new one 2 inches longer. I almost went back to the store to tell them they gave me the wrong belt. But I said what the heck, and tried it anyway. Wel l whaddaya know... everything lined up so much better. I could fill the PS pump with the alternator in place!

HOW ABOUT A PICTURE

Here's mine, it's on the pass side but mounted high.

alternator

Did you fabricate those two aluminum pieces

They are from CV Products, just like the pulleys and the powermaster alternator.

Here's a pic from the passenger side looking at the space between the Alternator, and the fill cap for the Power Steering Pump. Note that you can get your hand in there easily to remove the cap and use a funnel to fill the Power Steering.

Why cobble up the car and all the wiring to move the alternator to the other side? Just get the right belt and you'll be in business. :)

hey 74
do you think you can take a pix of your idler pulley for me
i'm swapping a BB in my 69. and i could use a guide thats better than the assembly
manual
