Any of you that have later than '72 vettes been in a '72 with it's rear window out while on the expressway? Some people say it is quieter, the popping is out of your ears because the window doesn't bounce off the back windows. Is this true? Hows the air flow. Really would like to know =)

I have had two 1973 Corvettes and have installed the removable rear window in both. I believe the interior noise is less and the wind goes right out the rear window rather than swirling around the interior.

I've been driving my 75 off and on for the past year with the back window out. I love it and plan to re-install mine as a removable window. I think its better to have the option than not. Jim

When I had my '72 I had the window out as much as possible. It definitely lowered the noise level and let the air flow out. This also helped clear the "warm" :D air that came through the fire wall and kept the interior temp bearable rather than smoldering. It's a sweet option if you can convert yours. Good luck.

The only problem is what is called "station wagon effect". The wind at speed enters the window as the car moving through air makes slight vacuum and pulls air in. It makes for some interesting hairdos.

I bet it does, but you get some pretty interesting hairdos with the t-tops off and widows down too.. Hmm. May have to convert. Sucks, a rear window with the molding just went on e-bay a couple days ago I believe for $40. grrr... =(

Bad hair day?

I don't think I have a problem with a bad hair day. :D No maintenance, no Rogane, no Grecian Formula, no problemo.

I actually prefer the ride of a coupe with the t-tops off and the window out over just riding with the tops out. As you mentioned, the air flow is nice, it is fairly quiet, and it gives good cooling for those of us without a/c. The COOL factor is right up there too.

It's hot in TX, I like the tops on (shade) windows down, rear window out, pretty comfortable at highway speed, noise is less than windows down rear window in. my 2 cents

You can pick up a used rear window off of ebay for $40 to $150, the rest of the parts are available from vendors, or you can pick them up piece meal off of eBay and get the whole thing done for $300 or less. Vette Specialties is simply charging for the convenience of rounding up the parts for you. They sell quality products ( I love their DIN radio conversion ). The interior trim items can be pricey unless you can find used pieces on eBay. Your Vette should have all the mounting holes (my 76 did).

I have a really silly question, why can't you use the rear window that is installed in the car? Do you really need to buy another one?

I love the t-tops off windows down A/C blowing full speed.

No hair so not a problem there, wife wants to keep a brush in the car to touch up her hair, I tell her she is beautiful any way so why go to all the trouble.

GO SOONERS
;LOL :beer

The rear window you have now is just a flat pane of glass. The removable window has an aluminum frame attached to it. You still need the clamps and guides as well as different interior trim and seal.

Or you could just pop your current back window out and leave it out. Unless you worry about driving it in the rain.
