removing cowl weather strip to help breath

I have heard of removing the cowl weather strip to help improve air flow under the hood. Has anyone tried removing the cowl weather strip to allow more cool air under the hood? I don't drive my vette in the rain, but in Michigan it's common to get caught in an unexpected rain, and I don't want the anything getting wet that shouldn't get wet. Any input would be helpful.
