I am trying to remove the dash out of my 76 vette restoration project car, I have the dash totally loose but whenever I raise the dash to get it out, the dash gets stuck on the windshield. Is there an easier way of getting it out?

I'm looking to do the same thing. I was looking at a book which said you had to "bow" the dash top. Seems scary to try to bend it, but I don't think you have a choice.

You might try a hair dryer to soften up the viynl first.

Mine came right out....

After you remove the windshield post trim, all of the lower dash screws (that go into the upper dash pad), and the one bracket that's about center of the dash at the cowl, you should be able to lift one end of the dash up and then towards you and it should come right out.

It's a snug fit, but shouldn't be that difficult to remove. Most forget the bracket up under the pad.

Hope this helps

This is going to sound backazzwards but the reason its hard to get out is because when these cars were built the upper dash was the first thing to be installed so there for its the last thing to be removed .If you are planning to remove the whole dash, you should remove the lower dash pads first. But to do that you are supposed to remove the center guage cluster first. Its one big puzzle but once you realize how the general did it it goes together and comes apart easy.

Hey Paintdaddy' When I removed my dash the driver side cluster was a real pita. I loosened the steering column but itdidn'tm yield much more room. Do you think I didn't loosen it enough? As you replied to my other post regarding wiring you'll guess that I'll be pulling all that again. Thanks Jim

Yeah I know. The steering column was installed after all of the dash was installed. The last one that I did ,I pulled down on the steering column just a little bit more to get that lh dash out. Also did you loosen it or remove the bolts all the way?.If you didnt remove them ,do that it will help out alot.
