This might sound crazy but I have a 94 coupe does anybody know if the seats are leather or leather like They are in good shape they are just a little hard they also have the c4 logo on them. Any advise on reconditioning them to soften them up and get that leather smell back
thanks

I am hardly an expert, but a good leather shop would likely sell you saddle soap and conditioner, if the seats are not cracked. You can check the 'Service Parts ID Label' which is probably stuck to the right side rear storage cover, for a code indicating leather seats. I cannot swear that there was a choice for other than cloth or leather, for '94.

I found: http://www.obenaufs.com/lp.php and,
http://www.alta-cuir.com/alta-leather.asp

From a Bimmer site: I use Connoly's Hide Food (my preference for years now). It says to apply it sparingly and let soak over night before buffing out. I considered the overnight part but decided I wanted it done in an afternoon so I applied the Food to each seat letting it sit while I did the others. Once the Food was applied, I decided to do all the vinyl, door seals etc.. This too, turned out to be a MUCH easier job with the seats out. After I completed this step I went back to polishing the seats. Given to laziness, I tried this once before and really liked the results so I got out my orbital polisher and, using buffing pads, buffed out one seat per pad. You would not believe the difference.

From others: "There are several good products...the key is to make sure and use them occasionally. I've used both the conditioner that came with car, and Mothers. Lexol is very good also. But there are many."
"IMHO nothing beats Lexol. I have tried many products over the years and it seems to do the best job. Try www.lexol.com and see what you think."
" My seats have been subjected to large dogs and stuff, kids earlier for the 240, and the seats have held up beautifully. I do condition the seats twice a year with Lexol."
