I need a replacement passanger door mirror (entire assembly) but the part has been discontinued. I have bid on a few ebay auctions (the last one I bid on was even in the color I needed!!) but have always lost in the few last minutes. My question is were the sport mirrors used on any other GM cars? Camaro of Firebird I was thinking, but haven't been able to find a match. Thanks in advance for any help.

You are in luck! Those mirrors were used on just about everything under the sun with a GM badge except Cadillacs. My 77 Cutlass, 81 Grand Prix, and 84 Monte Carlo had them as did my mom's 78 Cutlass, dad's 77 Monte Carlo, and brother-in-law's 76 Grand Prix. Hit that HUGE junkyard just northwest of Richmond and you're bound to find one. I'm not sure if the base varried from car to car though. They sure look the same though.

Good luck!

Thank you sooo much 71Shark, just the info I was looking for! I am not familiar with the junkyard you speak of; do you happen to know the name/city it is in? Thanks again!

I was afraid you were gonna ask me that. The name "Banks" is coming to mind. I'll have to check when I get home; I think I have a card or somehting at home. If you have nothing better to do on a Saturday morning, you can shoot up 301 across the Nice bridge into MD. There are 4 or 5 yards on 301 between the bridge and Brandywine that all let you rumage through the cars and tear off what you want.

I'll check tonite for the Richmond one. I do remember we drove a good ways past Fredericksburg on 95 I just can't remember where we exited.

One piece of advise - if you call a yard, tell them you want a GM sport mirror for your Olds or Pontiac. If you say Corvette, the price goes up:eyerole.

Thanks a bunch for all your help!! I just did a quick search on ebay and a zillion mirrors came up!! Even a prestine pair in white! They are substantially cheaper too.... the word "Corvette" stirs up fear, images of tire smoking.. and prices!!

Regarding "Banks", back in June I called them to ask about older Corvette parts (specified C3) and the response was, they don't handle ANY older Corvettes/parts. Maybe it's changed, but I felt it was worth the call before driving down there.

Thanks for the info Dave; it's wierd how people either specialize in vettes or almost refuse to work/sell parts for them. But it is nice being put in a special catagory all the time!

That's why I always had to remind myself not to say Vette if it was an interchangeable part.

And Dave just reminded me, Banks is the one on 234 in Manassas. This is going to bug me all day trying to remember where the heck we went down there. -Eric

Well I was a little off on the location but I found a card among my collection from Banks in Fredericksburg. The # is 800-572-5002. To confuse matters, there is also a Banks in Manassas. JMHO, if you find any that look good on eBay, go for it since junkyard mirrors will have been sitting outside for ages with no wax or any other protection.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the number 71Shark! Yes I would prefer to get an ebay one, some don't look too shabby. However, I have run into a new wall... It seems that all other gm cars that had the sport "bullet shaped" mirrors had the passenger mirror manual, not "remote". What I'm saying is that I guess you have to move the mirror by hand, not with the wire connected to it and in the door. Does anyone know if I can attach the wire to it some how?? My housing, as well as the inner pivot is broken. Thanks for any info.
