Hi!
I hope that someone will be able to help me (step by step instructions would be great!) replace the rear wheel studs on my 79 Vette.

I have taken the wheel and rotor off and now see that I'll probably have to take the parking brake shoe and spindle off. Am I correct in assuming this?

And, if so, what is involved with taking those parts off and putting them back on? I am not new to cars and regularly DIY (Do It Yourself).

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
Sheila

Welcome to the Corvette Action Center.
Some people have claimed to be able to replace the stud with the spindle on, but in my case and every one that I've seen the spindle had to be removed. This job requires some special tools and while you're in there you might as well replace the wheel bearings, which requires some more special tools. The bottom line is that you'll spend as much or more for the tools as it would cost you to have a shop do the work.
I took my trailing arms off last year and had the work done, putting new trailing arm bushings in when it went back together. Now, a year after the fact, I'm still happy with my choice, but had I bought the tools I could have loaned them out a couple of times to my friends. Any shop that does work on Corvettes should be able to do the work without removing the trailing arms.
