Our White 1990 has quite a lot of "Spider Web" sort of cracks in various areas of the bodywork. They are only visible if you are really looking for them but I'm wondering if anyone out there has come across any product that I might be able to use to minimize them?. A body shop here in England told me that a complete respray was the only solution but the problem does not concern me enough to go to that sort of expense. (Not yet anyway). So, if anyone can suggest any sort of product that might help me delay a respray for a year or so, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,

James

Well, a complete paint job is the only true fix. Here is a suggestion that you might try. there are some waxes on the market that are colored , they claim they will hide the the imperfections.

I used the black color on a truck I was selling and it worked fairly well.

I'm not a paint and body guy, but I have seen a personal friend remove a good share of spider web. It has to do with how deep they are. If they are in the clear, than I think they can be made worked on. Does that make sense?

The shop probably told you a repaint was the only way to fix it, at a way to get into your wallet. It's all in what you are prepared to live with.

Don't use wax that dries with a white haze. You want something that drys clear such as Turtle Wax Ice. I use it on everything and really like it. It doesn't seem to highlight defects.

Hi Glenn,

I use the Ice (clear liquid) on the GTX, I haven't tried on the Vette as I will repaint this fall. It is good stuff.

the wax I was refering to is billed as a scratch filler. They have most of the standard colors.

I use Turtle Wax Liquid Ice on everything except the interior!! I Clean them up and apply 3 coats to Body,Weatherstrips ,Black Trim,Engine,Suspension and Wheels!!:thumb Makes them real easy to keep clean on the road with just a quick pressure wash!!:thumbHides minor Crazing,Scratches and Chips!!:thumb:thumb:thumb
