It seems as though my reverse lights do not come on when I put my car in revers. I searched the forum on this topic but I can't find too much information. I wanted to know if anyone out there has had this same problem and what type of trouble shooting they did to fix it? Also what electrical components make up that circuit? Ant help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I know this is not the answer you are looking for but my backup lights have never worked since i bought the car. I guess the previous owner could not get them to work with the Hurst shifter he put in. My solution was to replace the reverse light lenses with new brake light lenses and modify the wiring so that all four brakelights come on when you come to a stop(like the newer Vettes). Gives me a little "piece of mind" since the drivers behind me seem to drvive too close.

The switch that turns them on and off is located on the transmission and is hooked up to the shifter. Frequently the little actuator rods comes unhooked or the switch itself wears out.

Here's the switch on the side of the 4-speed. It can be adjusted by loosening the screws and rotating the switch.

Also, here is a link to the electrical diagram. Not much to it.

This is a big help thanks. I do have an automatic transmission though, but I will find the switch because I just puchased a Chevy assembly manual for my car.

With an automatic, the backup light switch (combined with the neutral safety switch) is on the shifter mechanism, inside the console. :)
