Hello to all! First thing first, I am a 1yr new Vette owner. I purchased my 82 last year with 84,000 on the od. and it seems to run pretty good I would say. I since I purchased it I replaced all the tires and had the tranny rebuilt, but when Im on the highway the road noise is so loud the my wife and I seem to be yelling just to hear each other and I would say it's quieter with the tops off..LOL. so is this common for the C3's?

Thanx's
Mike

Hey Mike, I can't confirm the noise issue because I've never driven my vette, its been a project since day one haha. But, I do know there is sound deadening material that you can lay underneath your carpet and inside your doors. I'm sure that would help significantly. Its not cheap but if your interested i can post a link for you. Do you have aftermarket mufflers? Maybe swapping them out for quieter ones would solve your problem as well.

1st,Welcome to CAC!!!!
I have an '81 and I get wind and some road noise...
I put a heat barrier under my carpeting and it helped deaden some of the road noise, but you probably won't get rid of all of it!

Be sure to checkout the crossfire section for your vette, lots ofgood info there for your engine...

My exhaust is stock, and thax for the advice on deadening material. No the noise is not wind it coms from around the back of the car.. I had the rear end checked and the 3rd member looked at and they are in good shape I will try the under mat since my carpet feels a little thin! thanks again...You all are great! Bill My 82 looks just like your's but with a little top sun fade.

Dynamat Xtreme I plan on lining my whole interior and doors with this product. You'll definitely notice a big difference.

Well I guess I will plan on doing the same to mine. Now I wounder if my wife minds if I put Corvette Central on speed dial!....Lol, but it's like I say. "Go big or go home"!

haha ya these cars need special attention. Some good other sites are zip-covette and willcox. I believe we get a forum discount to.

My exhaust is not stock,I have magnaflows on my '81, and most of the road noise I get is from the rear....but look at where you sit in relation to the rear wheels...your right in front of them!!!!

You are so right, but with the top's on sometimes i feel like im in a fish bowl...... no disrespect to the Vette. I just think its time to up date the noise mat to the new stuff and thanx for all the help. You guys are the best! Bill81vette I will have a new exhaust this time next year for sure I bet yours sounds awsome. Now I would not complain if that was the issue! LOL PA060127.JPGPA060130.JPG

Nice looking vette!!!!

I run off road mufflers, (N11), and 2 ½ pipes on my ’72 with what sounds like less interior noise than you describe. One thing I did was to get the exhaust tips as far out past the body as I could without looking like a dork and it did make a difference, not huge but much better. That was from a "tip" from one of our members here on CAC. We can talk near normal while driving at road speed.I also have a tight tread on my tires, no large tread blocks to sing the “look at me” song as I travel down the road. That’s without any extra insulation and very old and depressed original carpet and padding at that.

When I overhauled the interior 3 yrs ago I used a 3/8 thick foam heating duct insulating material similar to dynamat. The whole inside of the car is lined with this material. It helped some but still loud in the car with the widows and tops all up and latched. I still have the factory jute pads intalled over the rear wheel humps in the back. With the rear tires right under your butt, the road noise will never go away. I think if a guy could run racing slicks on the street, that would cut the noise a bunch.
