I was looking for carburetor numbers, and just next to the
numbers is ''Quadrajet Mfd. by Carter for GMC''
I always thought it was a rochester carb.
Is it really a carter?
My service manual refers to it as a rochester M4MC.
Is it called a rochester because it's made in
Rochester New York?:confused

Thanks, gary.

Sounds like what you have is one of the Q'jets that was manufactured by Carter for Rochester.... check the number that should be stamped or cast on the carb body, this number (even though it was manufactured by Carter) will be the Rochester number.

It is still a Rochester. Just that GM needed more then Rochester could build so they, Rochester, contracted with other carb builders to will in the gap.
