Hey guys, Is there a different way a person is supposed to adjust/set the valves in a sbc using 1.6 roller rockers? Also I'm getting alot of air out of my exhaust. Is this because my valves are not set properly?
As always thanks for being here for guys like me. peace Bud

Valve setting method same regardless of rocker type or ratio. I'm not sure what is meant by "alot of air out my exhaust" but maybe you're saying valves aren't closing completely. If so, hydraulic lifters pumped up and/or set too tight is most likely culprit. With 1.6 rockers the pushrods tend to scrape-bind on inside of head where the pushrods pass thru heads ... check em ... clearance the heads if it's a problem.

Hard to explain

Hey Jack, thanks for the quick reply. This exhaust situation is hard to explain, it was pointed out to me by a friend. There is alot of exhaust coming out of my tail pipes. The engine is a 383 with 1.6 exhaust valves, 1 5/8 headers into a 3'' collector, into 2 1/2" tail pipes. I have compression between 170 and 180 in all cyclinders. It's probably nothing, but I am just now getting this beast to run the way I expected it to.
Also Jack, thanks for the imput last month on my carb. My computer took a dive and I haven't been online much. peace Bud :w

I would expect any fresh motor to push exhaust more crisply than old tired motor ... even more volume out when it's a bigger (383) motor ... especially with less restrictive exhaust. Your cylinder pressures look good.
