Along with a thousand other new parts, I installed a new fuel hose (from one of the main Corvette suppliers) between the electric fuel pump and the stainless fuel line (rear of car) prior to putting the car back on the road.

However, I don't think the old-design hoses are up to the task when a high capacity electric pump is involved. Due to the constant pressure from the pump, the hose has been swelling and has started crack-checking around the outer layer. 4,000 miles and I replaced it yesterday.

This time I purchased a stronger hose used on fuel-injected late models. However, after Carlisle I may be trying to flare the aft-end of the fuel line so I can get some Russell fittings in there in place of the hose. Flaring that line with the body on should be good for a laugh or two. :crazy

I've been trying to keep an eye on most everything since the rebuild, but this one snuck up on me. Z28Canuck caught it when he noticed a small leak below the tank area when I started the car in the garage.

He is the man!!!! Good catch!!!

Bob first I think its great your able to get 4000 miles on your car,it proves you built it as a driver ,not a garage queen. I have owned my DeVille since 1995 or 1996 and I still have not put 1/2 that milage on it. I am embarred to say what I have put on the 66 since since I restored it.

As for your leak great catch by Doug.

Good luck on the repair.

Isnt it great to have some one watching your back. I just got my wheel alignment done and afterwords brought my car to my brother inlaws shop on Friday for them to double check my work. They took there time and went under the car and double checked every thing. I feal much better knowing 2 other mecanics double checked it.

A common mistake when switching to an electric fuel pump from mechanical if there is a high pressure pump involved that requires a regulator to reduce it to 6 1/2 -7 lbs to prevent the needle and seat from blowing off. Special hose suitable for the late model injected cars is what should be used. It is considerably more expensive than regular fuel line hose and those selling the pumps should have made it clear on what is required to prevent fuel leak accidents and fires.:upthumbs

In doing research for my fuel system for my 502 install... Using the Excell Spread sheet from Bill Bradley, it turns out that only 6-9 lbls of pressure at 65 gallons per hour flow at WOT (From Memorey...Not that good anymore) is all that is needed for the 502. I know the 6-9 lbls of pressure is correct.

I have the specs at home. Anyway I installed a Carter electric Fuel pump on the outside rear frame rail protected by a custom bent (By Bill Bradley) 3/16" Steel
Gaurd arund the pump.

I'm using Russell SS Braided line from the frame SS 5/8" line to the carb with AN fittings. I think this is all you need.. That High Pressure Gack Scares me.... 45 PSI or what ever down to 7-9 to me is a little more then required.

Plus having the Carter pump tucked up and away makes me feel a Little safer....
Not that I'm riding in a Expolsion proof car ..:L We all know what out Midyears are made of. One good hit in the rear and alot of stuff gets creamed..including the fuel tank.

But havaing the fuel pump low to the ground and behind the Valance in open air with the in and out lines right their ..is kinda scarey Yeooooooooooooowww..!!:ugh
