Saw a new Z06 - well, actually a few of them and one RAN the 1/4 mi. right then!

Lot's of new Z06's were on display @ the NCM - one even ran the quarter mile @ Beech Bend... 12.33 @ 119.37 WITH a GM engineer behind the wheel :eek

Very impressive car from the factory in terms of what is in the option package :eek

One thing though I thought was lame, was the way the HUGE exhaust "necked down" as it entered the muffler can :eyerole
I guess GM finally left something for the aftermarket to correct or sell... :ugh

A lot of people consider this car to be the next "ZR1" when in fact, it seemed to have far more content for about the same jump in price ("suggested") over the base model ;)

I hope the car picks up some more speed as they "loosen up" - there was at least one "non-EX" car seen too, production has begun :upthumbs

ON the Z06 vette site today Zippy spoke of 127 mph trap speeds..

Another Z06 vette member spoke of 124 mph traps..

I could definitely see how the trap speeds and et's could vary up and down.

Thats why the Z06 needs dual clutch sequential shift technology...

JMO..

Thanks for the heads up and that track out there is sh!t ...always has been a slow track with poor conditions for fast times..

Were these times from over the weekend??

out of 5 passes, the time above was the best - mph was fairly consistent w/ e.t better each time... :beer

The cars you saw are lead unit builds and most likely arent saleable. Production doesnt start until late July and maybe August. Not coming to dealers until October.

Don't 124-127mph trap speeds roughly mean it should run in the mid 11's?

http://www.z06vette.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79875 or check out Zipsters quote: I did not go to Beech Bend today as I was involved in other things at the Museum. None the less, two trusted friends of mine told me about the Black Z06 at BB today, and her is what I've been told about the Black C6 Z06:

Track conditions were very poor and the car turned a 12.2, at 126.7 mph! WOW! I was impressed, and have no reason to dis-trust my two buddies. Yes, it was a GM pre-productiomn car, and I have not confirmed who was driving it....I'll try to find out, and post that after returning home.

BTW, I saw the new Monterey Red on a fender that was auctioned off. Absolutely , drop dead gorgeous! Took numerous pics, and will post them later. Although I haven't seen it outdoors, I describe it as a cross between Anniversary, and Magnetic Red Metallic...Everyone I talked to that saw it up close...loved it, including Mrs Zippy!

Later,
--------------------------

Personally I feel that an increase of displacement to 7 liters...keeping the weight under control and adding bigger tires blah..blah...blah 105 hp and torque..

IMO adding 100 hp ? and taking into account the torque improvement? I see a ten mph increase in trap speed is about right....

1 mph improvement per 10 hp is old school.

most of the Z06's wore "EX" as the last part of the vin#'s on their dashes - at least one had a "real vin" It was in the forties - maybe xxxxx48

They are certainly being built now, 2 or 3 per day was what I was told. :m

After reading the Z06.com thread, it is the same car (wore #45 on the glass) or at least one of the Z06's did - I must have left before the other one was brought out - there was mention of two...

Was the first one running off the (percieved) mark and a back-up car was brough in???

These claims of 20-25mph winds are total baloney though :eyerole I was there in a pair of jeans and a golf jacket - it was breezy, but not the winds that came later in the day or from earlier in the morning...

While the track might not have been the fastest track like some of the other "darling tracks" known for fast e.t.'s, the track seemed fairly consistent for the rest of the cars that were running...

Including the Breathless R&D car that was close to their claimed fast time -

After watching the car run 5 times, I left, as it seemed to have hit is plateau - maybe it was faster after a cool off period??

Please don't get me wrong - I think the car is impressive for a factory car, I just expected more out of the box :eek

BTW - it was a gentleman driving the car however, the first 2 passes were w/ a passenger :eek

...now, what to do w/ the video's ;)

I would suggest that the experience in driving at a drag strip is often less than ideal...

Those are good times so don't get me wrong......but drag racing is not everyones forte...

Trap speeds and et's are variable using this assumption.

Dave Hill said mid 11's...along with 100hp than a c5Z06 which as ranged many many different times on the track throughout the country with different drivers...

10mph faster trap speeds will be my guess..

Factory rating to factory rating (C5 Z06 to C6 Z06)

I wouldn't suggest being disappointed just yet..but its a still a strong point as to why GM should offer DSG.

Besides....

BG has a sh!tty track.

weren't the body panels auctioned off saturday ngiht in Torch Red?
(extras from the "one Of one" Torch Red C6 that will be in the NCM?)

I did think it was an attractive color on the panels.

Also, the Yellow that is replacing Millenium Yellow is not making fast friends with the fellas I spoke with in the plant. Just not vibrant enough for them. Might make it a short run color option(ie. collectible)

and yes, I was told at 11 am that one of Dave Hill's top engineers was taking a z06 to Beech Bend later in the day but it was just too cold for me to go out there and watch.

Mods I expect right off the bat: Vac. bypass for the mufflers/exhaust on the Z06.
and some sort of filter/screen for the rear brake ducts on the coupes and verts.. gonna be lots of trash and sand directed onto the rear rotors if you don't install something in there!

my 2 cents
Rain

For those who like yellow ...the yellow c6 Z06 I saw at the NY auto show looked nice enough...

I'm not disappointed with the new yellow, in fact it was hard to tell the difference...(maybe it was lighting..?)

Why did the corvette team even change the yellow to begin with?
