I'm interested in potential damage from salty air at the ocean. What do people that live near the ocean do to protect their 'Vettes? We recently moved to the beach in So. Cal and keep our cars garaged. I'm thinking that washing more often would help. Any other recommendations from 'Vette beachcombers?
Thanks!

Hi
I have not noticed any rust on the vette (i do have a mixer that I use as a back up with my band that is rusting in places, so I know its out there), but if I do lots of riding on the beach highway or if the wind is kicking it up across the roads, I have to blow the engine off once I get her home.
Usually an airhose and a bit of time.
It gathers under the fender wells and up around the engine it self.

Sure more info will come from others who like to cruise the beaches!

:L I park mine in the garage.

I know how it is though, living at the beach; living space, not to mention parking, or rather, the lack of it, is tough to find. Routine washing, as well as keeping a good coat of wax on it, should be good enough. But then, to some, it's never good enough for their beloved Corvettes.

Whereabouts in SoCal are you located? I just got back from the monthly meeting of The Vette Set, out of Martin Chevrolet in Torrance. We meet on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. Join us sometime.

I also am a member of Southwest Corvettes. We meet this Saturday (special day - we usually meet the second Saturday of the month) at Harbor Chevrolet in Long Beach. Join us Saturday for some conversation, and a run to the Old Town Music Hall in El Segundo after the meeting. :cool

Hi Ken,
We've been in Seal Beach a few months, previously in No. Orange County for many, many years. Luckily we have a 2 car garage because we're picking up a new convertible at the museum in a couple of weeks! We belong to Corvette Super Sports. Have you been to our car show? This year its scheduled for August 21. Thanks for your feedback. I enjoy the forum.
Regards,
Bill

I've attended events along with CSS, as a member of Southwest Corvettes, specifically when we all hit the Justice Bros. Museum/Shop in Duarte a few years back (6-7 yrs. ago already. My how time flies! :L)

I know we (both Southwest & The Vette Set) try to support the show each year. SWC hasn't held a show since '95 or '96, but the 30th Annual Vette Set show is scheduled for June 13 this year. I'm sure your club is going to be well represented. :CAC

I hope I can have mine to the point where I don't have to fret mechanical stuff and can concentrate once again on appearance. I wanna show it now! :v

I'll make sure the word is out at CSS about the Vette Set car show. I don't see it posted on our club calendar. Can you have someone email a flyer to our webmaster at michael@camike.net? I need to learn how to use the forum features so I can include links and other fancy stuff. See you around.

follow up thought: Wow, that's cool how the above link was automatically set up. I'm smarter than I thought!

Don Glaza is the car show chairman, but he's undergoing surgery this weekend (Hell of a way to spend a weekend, eh?). However, Paul Benthuys is club president this year, as well as being a registered member of the :CAC. Drop him a line; I'm sure he'll get one out to you guys at once. ;)

Cool new software. We just got it not too long ago. :cool

i used to live on sydney harbour, was totally surrounded by water (it was a navy base on a head).

Think of this: I moved there with a perfectly rust free bike. 2 years later, after not riding it at all and it sitting in my garage, the bike was unusable due to rust. So oxidisation is deffenitely effective.

I'd expect a car cover to be of some value.
