The drivers side seat on my car growls when I try to adjust it. I have had it out and did not find any obstructions to the track. It appears to me that the gears inside this housing are slipping.

Has anybody drilled out the rivets and repaired the inside of one of these if so what was involved and were you able to repair the problem with the gears.?

Next question are the seats interchangeble between the passenger and driver side.

Next question goes back to my cruise control I continue to have problems with the wires that go through the steering column getting cut and shorting out. What I wonder is it possible to cut the wires with enough length to splice new wire between the two connectors and run it along side of the steering column.

1. Have you checked the ends of the cables to make sure they are not stripped broken or rounded off ?

2. I started to but I couldn't find any gears to repair the grearset with. However this was on a different GM car ( Z28) . I have redone a set of 'vette seats as well but didn't need the gears.

3. I don't think so however some parts may swap over ( motor, cables, lumbar pump etc. )

4. A good thread exist on this site about the installation of the cruise control. It was fairly recent I believe.

and on a final note, Ecklers carries rebuilt seat frames for about $220 for the complete frame. :beer

Growls at you does it? Growling is normal, it if bites you in your ass then it's time to deal with it. lol

If you get off the seat and "help" it along while working the controls will it move? which movements work? Up/Down? Fwd/Back? There's a know weakness with the gears in the drive mechanism. Mine's been growling for years but it'll work is I get out and "help" it. I removed the motor and it's fine, so I'm sure it's the gear assembly - I understand they're plastic and break down just like the stuff inside the headlite movement assembly. I understand to fix it you must cut and re-weld the shafts as part of replacing the gears - which may not be readily available. You can buy the frame/gear assembly w/o motor for $250+ and they want your old piece in exchange via a refundable core charge of ~~ $125+ shipping is additional.

If mine actually quits I'll do that. Meanwhile I use the situation as an excuse to "help" lady passengers adjust the seat for their comfort lol.

Various providers have the service: MAD, Ecklers, Corvette America - and for about the same costs. They probably all send them to the same plant in Asia. ha ha
