I have a problem that my dealer says he can't see to detect. For some strange reason my security light comes on while I'm driving, I haven't been able to pinpoint if it's at a perticular time or speed or anything like that because it varies as to when it comes on and it stays on until I turn the car off. It doesn't happen every time I drive it's just sometimes and the alarm works just fine. Any suggestions that I can offer the dealer as I will be taking it in soon for an oil change.

Try your other key and see if the security light goes on. Maybe the key is not making proper contact.

Hi there,
The next time your Security light comes on, immediately retreive codes from the BCM, as this will show because the security light is activated by this control module.
You will see codes there.
If your key was creating this condition, you would have a no start issue, and the check engine light would be on.

I'm a novice at this, where do I retrieve the BCM codes? I know you probably hit one of the buttons on the dash. So explain please.

Hi there,
Basically, here is how it goes.
First, if you see any messages on the DIC, press reset to clear them, so that you see your odometer.
Then, push and hold the #4 button. While doing that, press #1 button 4 times, and release them both.
You will see 10-PCM as the first module, it will tell you how many codes you have, display them, or 'NO CODES'
The DIC will go through each module.
Next would be 28-TCS, this is your traction control/ABS system.
Next would be your 40-BCM, this is what you are concerned with.
I would practice this a few times, so that it becomes easier.
Then, just have a pen available, and write them down.
Diagnostic trouble codes, are VERY valuable when diagnosing.
You can post all codes in all modules if you wish, as sometimes there are subtle hints that may be in other modules.
Please keep us posted on your condition.

Had the same problem on my 98.

Took to the dealer several times to have the codes cleared.

Under warranty they replaced the key core and keys claiming the chip in my key had become loose.

Never did stop the problem from happening. Traded for a AE.
