Hello from Switzerland!
After having waited for more than 25 years the dream finally came true,I'm the happy new owner of a sunfire yellow 66 coupe.
:happyanim:
The car was frame-off restored 20 years ago and was driven 18'000 miles since then.
The vette was imported from Michigan in 2005.The VIN is 194376S107303 and the build date is the first of december 65(D1).
So the sequence number is OK with a total production number at the end of november of 7'186.
The american owner who restored the car between 1988 and 1992 (I've some pictures) told me that the small block in the car is a factory replacement and was just rebuilt when he bought the corvette. So he restored everything except the engine.
The casting engine number is 3858174 and the engine number is F0203HE.That base engine was so built 2 months after the car.JohnZ
kindly told me in a previous message that with such numbers it should be effectively a vette block of 1966.
Now my problem and my question:the sequence number next to engine number on the engine pad is 113908
1/there's no 6 at the beginning ?
2/that sequence number is 1'322 cars after the known total production number at the end of january 66 (12'587).With a build date of the third of february for that replacement block,1'322 is too much for 3 production days...!!!???
Any idea or comments ?
A last question:everything works well with the car but when I'm returning home after a cruise, there are 1 or 2 drops of oil under the vette. It's coming from the joint between the bellhousing and the gearbox, leaking then from the bottom of the gearbox to the ground.
Is there something easy to do to solve that problem except from taking the gearbox apart for a new joint ?
Is it gearbox oil or engine oil ?
Thanks for reading me and happy spring season to all of you.:w

Yves:

Car 13908 was built Feb. 14, 1966. The engine was assembled Feb. 2, 1966. That timing works.

The leak is probably transmission fluid from the countershaft bore. You might be able to seal it by just pulling the transmission back from the bellhousing and using some oil-resistant sealer. I'd try that first.

Bill

This is where that leakage usually occurs - at the front of the countershaft.

Thanks Bill, effectively it's logical, I took the problem upside down :)
Thanks also John for your opinion
