Looking for what the right sequence of how to do the following projects would be, without doing things three times or putting myself in danger:

1. Inside and outside tie rod ends
2. Upper and lower ball joints
3. Wheel bearing

I will do this for each front wheel on my 76.

Thanx!

Since you'll be removing most of these items to get to the ball joints, I'd just do them all at once.

#1 Pull the brake rotors off. The bearings will need to be pressed out. You can do that on the benchtop or have a shop do it.

#2 Mark the tie rod ends and remove them and measure them from joint center to joint center, so you can put new ends on and be the same length and joint orientation as the originals.

#3 Here's the hard part. Chain the front spring to the suspension arm to keep it from flying, just in case the jack slips.
Remove the cotter pin from the ball joint nuts and loosen the nuts about one turn.
Jack up the lower control arm to support the lower control arm. Remove the nut from the lower ball joint. Use a Pickle fork to separate the ball joints from the control arm.
Drill out the rivet centers on the ball joints and chisel off the heads to remove the ball joints.

Get a good manual to fill in the details

I am actually at this point in my restoration. I basically decided to rebuild the entire front end of the car. It really depends on what level of rebuild you want to do. You can go as far as upgrading the suspension, or simply rebuild/replace the stuff you have. I have taken the route of rebuilding anything and everything I can (I have a number matching car that I intend to show). I would do the following :

1. Determine what your expected result will be (perfection, good as new, functional). This is important because it is directly related to the amount of money and more important time you will spend rebuilding the car. You have several choices to make here, do I rebuild the steering box, you are going to have all the steering components off. That kind of stuff.

2. follow the steps in 'wishuwerehere82's' instructions. He is right on the money, especially about the manual.

Here is a link to my car, you are going to have all kind of fun pulling the ball joints off the knuckle, make sure you have a ball joint puller! :-)
