Does the GM Service Manual for the '78 Corvette include All Chevys or just the Vette for this year. I'm looking to pick one up. I guy has one but it includes All Chevy he said. Was there different manuals made that year?

I not sure if there is a difference in "GM Shop Service Manual" verses a "GM Corvette Shop Manual". My "Shop Manual" for my 1981 is all inclusive to the 1981 the manual is gm #ST-364-81. I know that Haynes publishes a book for "Chevrolet Corvette '68 ~ '82".

I have the GM Shop Manual and the GM Assembly manual for the 1981 and as I said it is strickly for the 1981 Corvette. Hopefully one of our GM mechs or GM parts members will be able to clear this up for us ;).

Contact Helm they make the service manuals and I think there is one for a 78 Corvette by it's self . Try helm.com I ordered mine on line from them. I had an 81

i bought one for my 73 and included in it are also camero , monty carlo, malibu, and chevelle. the book is good , with the right stuff in it. it is very thick though , with all of the other cars in it. mine is the GM service manual.

Hi,

I have the 79 shop manual for my car and it is ONLY Corvette. I also have the shop manual for my 67 SS Chevelle and it includes Corvette, Camaro, Chevy II and Chevrolet. My 65 manual has Chevrolet, Chevelle and Chevy II in it. It appears that GM used to combine them when there were few differences in power trains and fewer models available. In the 80s and 90s I know that there are up to 3 manuals in set for any given year.

You want to have the specific shop manual for that year. I can name 3 items right off that you may not find in the more generic type aftermarket or "all Chevy" manuals. First will be special tools to R&R specific parts on the Vette. Second will be the electrics section that is detailed for the Vette. Third is chassis frame dimentions. Hopefully you won't need the, "de-wad" page for this. But it sure will come in handy for replacing rusted out sections.
Like Bob said, Helm books are the genuine source for GM manuals. If you are going to spend the money on a manual.....add a little more out of pocket for the correct information.

79 was the first year Corvette had it's own manual. Chuck
