FORT WORTH, Texas – JR Motorsports co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. said the organization continues to look at several young drivers to potentially take the place of Kelly Bires in the No. 88 Chevrolet in the Nationwide Series.
Bires was released earlier this week and Cup driver Jamie McMurray has agreed to run nine races in the No. 88.
Landon Cassill is scheduled for some races in the organization's No. 7 Chevrolet and that car will be driven in two events by Canadian Steve Arpin, who won Friday night’s Automobile Racing Club of America series race at Texas Motor Speedway.
“I’m really hoping that Landon shows Tony (Eury) Jr. what he needs to see to get more opportunity. Landon’s such a great guy. He’s a real, real easy sale to the sponsors because he does such a great job,” Earnhardt said.
“I really hope Landon works out. Steve Arpin, I think, might be an opportunity waiting to happen for anybody, and there are drivers popping up there all the time.”
Earnhardt said the perfect scenario would be to find a driver for the No. 7, move him into the No. 88 before the season ends, then to the No. 88 for the full 2011 season.
