How much Corvette parts sharing amongst the other GM lines is OK before it starts to erode the Corvette prestige?

my personal feelings are that this is a very tough poll to answer.
In my opinion it's not the percentage of parts that are shared but WHAT the parts are.
Obviously, there are always going to be parts that are specific for the Corvette only, but on other items if it is a part that can be shared throughout the GM line it helps to keep the cost of the car down to a fairly reasonable level. The Corvette will never be a low-priced budget sports cars (as it shouldn't be), but at the same time, production with all specific Corvette only parts to make it "pure" would drive the cost over $100,000. one of the great appeals of the corvette is that it's an "affordable" sports car but that competes and WINS on the exotic market in terms of performance and looks.
If the corvette has the proper sports cars looks appeal and the world class performance (as it does), I don't feel parts sharing is necessarially a bad thing.

there never has been parts that are just Corvette-only parts; now the real question to ask is what constitutes MADE IN AMCERICA? Corvette can't even claim that distinction anymore!Sad, but true! World economy has taken over.

Rick

wouldn't item such as body parts, seats, dash parts, interior trim items that are only used on the corvette be considered Corvette-only parts?
I'm not positive since I don't follow other cars as much as I did in the past but what other GM car uses the same motor?
Maybe my definition of parts is different.

I agree. Who cares about a starter or A/C compressor, but it does bother me that a Caddillac shares the same frame as the C6. What bothers me even more is that the Caddy got it first.

Hi 97RedCorvette,
Boy, did you ever press the hot button. At firstI thought the poll meant how much part sharing GM would allow. On a second read I understood it to mean how much part sharing I would like. Obviously none. I have ranted before, the C5 is that last "pure Corvette". Which in my book is a real pitty. Only a Corvette should be a Corvette. But, it looks like M-B-Chrysler is doing the same with the new "Viper Truck". Sad, that sports cars cannot be "sprots cars".

Motors

CTS-V uses LS6
GTO and F-bodies 98-02 use LS1
05 SSR will use LS2

Always rated (sometimes just on paper) at less HP than in vettes

Back in the 60s and 70s, Chevelles got LS-6s, Z28s got LT-1s and L82s
90s F-bodies got 350 TPIs and LT1s (F-bodies always got the engines 1 year later)

The run of the mill parts like alternators, power steering pumps, switche gear, etc were always standard (although sometimes hi capacity) GM parts.

What else is new?
