Shift light on HUD

HEY corvette owners,
Does anyone know whether the shift light that comes on the HUD is based on optimal shift points for racing or is it just a warning indicator before you hit the rev limiter?
I'm always looking to optimize acceleration.

Hi there,
This is based on rpm from the PCM.
Basically, you are looking at about 500 before redline, if memory serves.
