Shifter Boot

I have a 94 LT1 Coupe with a 6-speed and I was wondering when you pull off the console is the Rubber shifter boot replaceable? and if so, is there some kind of special way of removing and replacing it?
And secondly I know how to remove the shifter knob but how do you get the Leather Boot over the collar on the shifter? Is there some kind of special way of removing the collar so that the boot slides over it? Because the Leather shifter boot does not stretch.
