Shifter Knob on 82 Vette

Ok; I got a new boot and want to change at the old one. I got the Spring loaded botton off, but I am having trouble with the Knob (ball). Does the ball spin off or pull's off? Anyone have any ideals?

It is a spin off. I've heard some people using one of those strap pipe wrenches to get it off if it's really stuck on there. Spray it with some of that liquid wrench stuff, let it sit over night, and give it a good twist.

one of the other members of this forum had the same problem... when i had my 82 the stupid knob kept spinning loose on its own so i think other owners may have glued the sucker in place over the years... but it does spin off lefty loosey

They were correct. The stock knob is threaded.

Or try wrapping an old leather belt around it and use a pipe wrench.
