Which way does the shifter come out on the ’63? Top or bottom? I’m pulling the motor and Muncie together. I just have to remove the shifter than I can lift it out.

I would remove the boot first, and then remove the linkage and three short bolts that secure the shifter to the transmission. You then should be able to remove it from the bottom. Sorry that I did not have a picture from the left side.

I would take a couple of photos prior to disassembly.

Do you have the T-10 or Muncie?

It is very tight. I can't get to the bolts from the top or the bottom. On the bottom the exhaust is in the way and on the top I can just get the wrench on one bolt, but I can't turn it. I wonder if I can pull the motor with the shifter attached. I assume not.

On my 66, by removing the console and boot, I was able to get to the top bolt very easy with a craftsman ratcheting wrench. The lower bolt , I could only reach from under the car. Then you will have to remove the clips that hold the shifter rods to the shifter levers. Then you should be able to take the complete shifter out through the top. At least that is how I got mine out. Hope this helps.
