Under all driving conditions execpt full throtle my trans will shift out of first into second. Under full throtle the rpm's go into the red and as soon as a back off the pedal the trans shifts right into second. Is this normal for Corvette's? If not any ideas?? Thanks!!

sorry I'm not going to be much help here but I had shifting problems w/ a 700R4 before after installing a B&M Shift kit the trans refused to shift from 2nd to 3rd , it was doing the same thing yours is, redlining. So what you're experiencing is not normal.
It turned out my trans was screwed but the main problem was in the valve body. Not 100% sure I thought the 1st to 2nd shift was controlled by the governor on the 700R4. It could just be slipping and it's time for a rebuild

I have the same problem (and it is a problem, not normal). Full Throttle shifts just don't happen with my car. I think it has to do with the pressure not building or being directed correctly to the torque converter. I've tried doing the Throttle Valve cable adjustment, but it didn't help. I've been looking for a competent 700R4 shop that I can take it too without pulling the trans.

I'm pretty sure that it is an adjustment, but it could also be wear. I'm still try to learn about this trans, but I am certainly no expert.

I've found some good information at this website, but the shop is too far away to help me without pulling the trans and shipping it.

Click on the TV 101 article, lots of technical information.

Sounds normal to me

If you have the accelerator floored, don't you want to build speed rapidly? First gear will do that faster then 2nd, which is why the car shifts that way.
:w

"never shifts into 2nd grear unless" << Now, that sounds like a different description than the first and a problem. Now, I wish I were an AT expert!
:v

I agree that the car should stay in first gear long under full throttle than normal driving, but under full throttle in my car the trans never shifts into 2nd grear unless I back up off the pedal for a second. This doesnt seem right to me. Maybe I am missing something. :)

Normal to never shift out of 1st at full throttle?? Or if it does shift it actually goes to neutral and the tach redlines?? That is what mine does and that is nowhere near normal for any automatic transmission that I know of.

It should hold the gear until early to mid redline then shift to the next gear. Mine actually loses momentum so I know the transmission is not driving the car at that point, it is in between gears or the torque converter is slipping completely. I think that is what cgroftmc is talking about as well.

That is exactly what mine is doing. It will however shift into 3rd grear under full throttle. I hope that this is just an adjustment. I really never race the car so full throttle for me is not really an issue, but the fact that it's not working correctly bothers me.

Mine will take off hard in first then short-shift under throttle to second, usually spinning the tires, particularly if turning at a light. If held down in second it will climb a bit before hitting third..
