I was just reading about this, and I just wanted to clarify that I understand this concept. So, there are shims where the wheel meets some sort of axel? And then, depending on the figure and shim placement, you can create/eliminate toe-in?

Is that how that works? Thanks! :D

In the rear of the car are 2 trailing arms. These trailing arms mount to the frame on each side with a bolt. Shims are placed inside and outside of these bolts in the frame pocket. By varying the shims on the inside and outside, you change the rear toe in/toe out. I don't have my spec book in front of me, but I think that the total rear toe in should be about 1/16 to 1/8 inch. If I'm wrong about this, I'm sure I'll be corrected. :) Chuck

Okay, thanks a lot, Chuck! I think I understand what you mean and how it works. Thanks again! :D

Since the Corvette has independent rear suspension, each rear wheel is mounted to an independent trailing arm which swings freely up and down. The front of that arm is what connects to the frame via a pivot bolt. The "toe in" shims are not mounted to any axle or wheel per se. They are used where the trailing arm mounts to change the in/out variation.

The positive/negative "camber" of the rear wheels is adjusted by the strut rods which go from beneath the differential to the rear spindle supports. Chuck

I'm trying to get a visual image of what these trailing arms look like, but I think I understand your description of them. So, with more shims, it'll push the toe more, resulting in the change. That's how?

Thanks, Chuck! :D
