Very interesting comparison. Thanks for sharing. I have used up a few of those big block Sears vacs over the years and have one now. They don't seem to get any quieter with their other claimed improvements but they are cheap. I may have to step up to a top of the line next time.

This comparison is very timely as this month's Family Handyman Magazine has an article on how to make an enclosure for your shop vac to make it quiet. Just got it in the mailbox yesterday so I'll check when I get home and edit this post with the actual month.
