Is there any way of knowing if a veh. came from the factory withside exhaust? Pulling the body off and there seems to be alot of insulation between the frame and body by the door sill. Haven't found the build sheet and don't think i will.:confused

There are more than a few clues to look for in a REAL Sidepipe car. I like to look at how the rear valance panel is configured and what material its made from. In addition, because part of the cutout for the rear exhaust bezel is in the quarter panel , a different panel was used when the rear clip was built. Another thing to check is to try to determine if there were ever exhaust hangers attached to the frame for under car exhaust. Some times if you use your finger to feel the inside of the frame where the hanger would have been there will be a smooth area where the washer and nut where and the frame is less rusted and pitted because the washer gave some protection to the frame. You can also check for a spacer at the transmission mount to take the place of the exhaust pipe clamp which wasn't installed on sidepipe cars.
Love sidepipe cars, hope yours is REAL.
Regards,
Alan

PS The 68-69 NCRS Tech Guide lists 8 things to look for on a 69 sidepipe car. NCRS is terrific source of information and many great people.
