I have a 2004 coupe with 19K miles. Yesterday, I noticed a two inch split on the right rear tire with the center parts bulging out. There are no marks around it to indicate I hit something. In other words, I think it may just be a deformity. Although it's possible, I can't think of a time when it would have been intentionally cut. They are the original Goodyear P275/40ZR18 run flats with less than 20K on them. The tread is good as I don't burn out. The tires are set # 599. No warning signals have gone on and I have not lost any air pressure.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? Do you think I might have some recourse with Goodyear? Thanks in advance.

Never had one dye on me from natural causes. I always manage to kill mine way before their time is due by sending them up in smoke.;)
I think it would be very difficult to prove that any factory defect caused this. Good luck.

Goodyear warranty is 48 months from manufacture date for workmanship and material defects (or 4 years from purchase if you have proof of purchase) and prorated by wear. What is the DOT number-that tells you the manufacture date.

John,
Take it to a Goodyear dealer and see what they say.

Split in Tire

Thanks for the quick responses. They've been helpful. I bought my 04 in July, 2003, so the tires are over 4 years old. But you're right, I probably hit something and didn't realize it. Thanks again and happy holidays.
