Aloha again Mr C-4/5 specs.!! I spoke to my friend this morning and he wanted me to ask you some questions about the knock sensor infor that you gave me/him the other day. He wanted to know the part #, if you happen to know it, for the knock sensor, because he's going to do that intake switch from the stock '99 to the Zo6, and he wanted to compare the part number that you give him, to the one thats in the car whne he opens it up. He's thinking that his knock sensor might be the original one that came with the car because of his time slip from the tracks. He's noticed that the miles per hour and 1/4 mile time are not as good as some of the other C-5's that are there, which nothing were done to them... all stock! He's only getting a 13.7 at only 102 mph, compared to the other C-5's which are running at 13.4's at about 106 to 108 mph! What's this got to do with the knock sensors your probebly asking your self? well, if the knock sensor is bad, it's retarding the timing, and in turn, will hurt his 1/4 mile time and top speed. What do you think? He also would like to know if, at the original recall on the sensor, was it only the sensor that needed to be replaced? or the sensor and harness will need to be replaced? since you metioned on your response about the recall that the volt signal or something like that was causing the problem, not that the sensor was to "sensitive". If you dont think that this is the problem, do you have any suggestions on what could be causing him to be getting these lbad times? Mahalo again for your time and patience!!

HI there,
There was never a recall for knock sensors, or the system. There was a TSB for water intrusion into the knock sensor hole, creating drivability conditions. 02-06-04-023a was the bulletin number.
The number off the knock sensor, may not be the same, as factory knock sensors usually have a different supply number, than that of the replacements. 10456603 is the part number that we use for replacement. Torque of the knock sensors is the most critical part of installing them. 14 ft lbs is the spec.
I would be more curious about knock due to carbon deposits, rather than a defect in the knock sensor circuitry.
What is the mileage of the vehicle, and has he gotten the latest calibration for the car, from a GM dealership??????
Let us know, c4c5:hb

Aloha! He Read your response and will get you the info in a little while1 While I was typing this thread up, his car through a couple of codes, the codes aer DTCP0113 & DTCP1111. which is the IAT Air sensor We believe......Where the heck is this sensor anyway? The air bridge?

Hi there,
Yes, it is in the air bridge, in between the MAF sensor, and the throttle body.
I have seen alot of these connnectors get stretched, and they create these codes.
Before you change the sensor, I would check the terminals to make sure that they are not the problem.

Knock Sensors

I've had to replace one already. I installed the Z06 intake and the one of the sensors went after I was done. I probaby cut the intake removal and replacement time in half the second time. If you have any questions regarding the Intake, let me know. There is a way to make the job go faster, by deviating from the instructions to some degree.

Aloha Todd....By the way, thats my friends name who's asking these questions about the sensor's and intake switcharoo, I'm posting them for him, sort of like a ghost writer!! He read your response and said that he will get in touch with you soon when he makes the switch! If you like, go ahead and post your intake exchange "secret", and I'll save it in my files for when he's ready to do the job! Mahalo (Thank You) for your help Todd!!
