Has anyone figured out the problem with the 1990 C4 continually setting codes 16 and 26 sensor failures. The sensors check ok and are not corroded at all and have the grease under them. I have heard lots of people have this same problem but no cures. It also seems to be only the 1990 that has the problem.

Help,
Galen

On the recurring problem with the Driver's Side Sensor on my 90 ZR-1, I found the problem to be a dirty connection in the Yellow Connector that's clipped behind the carpeting on the kick-panel just to the left of the clutch pedal.

This Connector is where the wires coming from the Sensor pass thru the firewall and connect into the SIR system.

I disconnected the battery for about 15 min. to be sure the Airbag wouldn't deploy by accident, and then pulled the Connector apart, sprayed both ends with Electrical Contact Cleaner, reassembled it and carefully clipped it back into it's plastic holder.

Haven't had a Code since, and it's been over 5 years!

I assume there's a similar Connector on the Passenger Side for that sensor.
