Slp Long Tube Headers On C5

I've purchased a set of SLP long tube headers, down pipe and installation kit. Has anyone put a set of these on their Vette?
If so, let me know how tough it is to put them on, and how many knuckles you've had to damaged in the process. Most of all, does it make a difference in power or not?

SLP headers

Three pieces arrived. The headers, installation kit and downpipe section. I received these on Tuesday 3/4/03. I reviewed the installation instructions, and they are quite extensive in terms of prepatory work. It calls for the removal of the battery, alternator, coils, plugs, wires and existing exhaust manifolds. Underneath, the removal of the cats with the midpipe section, and engine motor mounting bolts to the crossmember. The battery cables, starter, and some sensor wiring have to be stripped of the black plastic corregated conduit, relocated, and reinsulated with new insulators provided in the header installation kit. After this work, you have to cut the pipe in front of the cats. The engine has to be jacked up on each side to insert the headers in from the top. Once this is accomplished, remounting the midpipe section, cats and downpipes with the 02 sensors reinstalled. After that is done tighten everything up and put it all back together. They have indicated 4-6 hours of installation time. If you don't know much about doing this type of work, I would recommend a professional installation. For me, it is just fun. My type of relaxation. I'm not going to set any speed records, but it will be done totally by the book. If I find any shortcuts, I will let you know. I anticipate a savings on the midpipe section work, due to my catback system has a cut behind the cats. This will save me from removing the entire midpipe section.

haven't put them on yet

I've been waiting for the nice weather to put the headers on. It's here now, but I just ordered the high flow cats in addition. I heard this today that they had to be special ordered and won't be here for a week. I'll let everyone know how the power is, after I'm done.

High Flow Cats

The high flow cats arrived the other day. They came with a post cat pipe section, with (2) bongs for the rear O2 sensors. I decided to replace all the O2s, so I bought new O2s for the front and rear. I prepped the wiring and intalled the headers the weekend before last. The driver's side required jacking up the engine to get the header in. Everything fits very well. I just got back from California, so I lost a week. I should have the job complete on Wednesday 4/2. I will let everyone know how it sounds, and what kind of performance difference the headers make.

My current mods are: Removal of the plastic front facia fog lamp inserts, removal of 75% of the radiator shroud, from the bottom at the nose-up, 6" conical K&N filter, 1000 cfm mass air flow ends, Vortex power duct, BBK 80mm throttlebody, ZO6 intake manifold, Performance hood seal, 30lb. Accel fuel injectors, mass air flow translator, coolant bypass kit, relocated recalibrated MAT sensor, 160 degree thermostat, Taylor 409 10.5mm wires, Bosch platinum +4 sparkplugs, CAGS bypass, Borla XR-1 catback competition exhaust, Diablosport Predator tuning with a raised rev. limiter to 6600 rpm in gears one through five only, and a 190 degree dual electric cooling fan start temp. (Soon-SLP long tube headers with SLP high flow cats.)

Headers installed

I've installed the long tube headers. Great throttle response and alot more torque. The feeling and sound under WOT is unreal. I did have one problem with my Borla cat back system. It is not compatable with the installation kit from SLP. I had to fabricate the connection to make it all work. If anyone is interested in installing a pair of long tubes on their C5, I can answer any questions you may have weather it is worth it, or about the installation.
