Snapped off a bolt in my exhaust manifold

Geez I hate 33 year old manifold bolts that breakoff after a 1/2 hour or so of hitting it with an impact wrench!

Could anyone tell me the best way to get that bolt out?

The bolt you snapped is in the head or on the manifold?

If its in the manifold my vote would be to remove the manifold,get it on a bench,wire wheel or sand blast the area where the bolt was.aply heat and then try and work out whats left of the bolt while its red hot.

I would then recomened removing the other one and doing the same with it,and also sand blasting both of them and then painting them with the east wood paint on exchaust paint that you have to cook in the oven. Sounds like alot of work but when your done its done forever.

The best way to remove a frozen bolt is to scrape away at the base near the bolt create a cap heat the bolt and throw trans fluid on it repeat this proceedure until you can back the bolt out. it does work take some time though. the trans fluid will work its way into the gap keep things lubed while backing it out so it doesn't sieze up again.

Isnt the trans fluid highley flamable? does the quenching with fluid open the possibility for cracking the manifold?

This is the first I have ever hear of doing it this way.

Failing the various home remedies, most muffler shops are very adept at removing broken manifold studs, as they confront them all the time. If that fails, find a machine shop with an EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) setup, and they can remove it.

I have done several this way and NEVER had a problem. I know of sevral others who also use this method never started any fires either . Hey whatever man just thought I would pass along some wisdom good luck !
