I was flipping through a bunch of old literature last night and just wanted to ask the question - Do the LT1-based supernaturals have any particular designation?

We all know the twin-turbos have factory RPO B2K

I've seen numerous references to the ZR1 modified Callaway's as CR1's.

Do the LT1 motors have any similar reference? I"ve seen one or two papers with CL1, but nothing that stands-out.......

Dave

Dave, the "B2K" comes from of course, the Chevrolet "RPO" number and cars ordered through Bowling Green would get the "SEO" designation of "Z5G" (although that is a build sheet item not to be found on the Service Parts label in the glovebox).

The "SNAT's" were broken down by chassis - the ZR1/LT5 based ones were called the CR1's and the regular Vette SNAT's were called CL1's - since Callaway shifted gears and no longer had an RPO code in the General Motors ordering system, this was an internal designation. The SNAT's can prove to be an interesting subject since you could order a SNAT through Callaway and have it done at Old Lyme or, at one of a handful of "installation centers". Also, you could order the engine (and anything else) and a'la carte your Vette any way you like (Although the one I had considered before buying my 93, had no real lineage back to Callaway other than the guy purchasing the engine as a "crate" motor - no dash plate, etc.) I passed on that car altough if everything checked out, it would still make for a decent everyday driver (it was a stock body 6 spd. 93 ruby 'vert w/ h top.)

Supernaturals are considered C6's according to Callaway, Camaro's are C8's

And interestingly enough, Twin Turbo Cars are C4 in the Callaway "C#" line-up. I've heard the Callaway ZR1s called CR1s but I've never heard CL1. Chris, where did you get that?

Kevin, Man I was just about to type that (c4 is a B2K in Callaway designation)
The CL-1 is from old (1992 or 93) Callaway literature they sent me during that period... It gave examples of CR-1 and CL-1 option content and how to get the goods ;)
The CL1 designation was also used in the Bridgestone "RUN-FLAT" descriptions for the 2 cars in that promotion. (Those were 92 SNAT 400's)
Hope this helps :beer

...but then there was a change

...as reported in the Jan25,1993 issue of Autoweek, "LT1(originally called the CL-1 and since redubbed Supernatural400) and ZR-1 (likewise CR-1 now known as SuperNatural 475)"

Interesting article on the "kickoff" of the next chapter in Callaway History :beer

hey thanks guys....

sn400 - I do notice the "C6" being used to id the Callaway line; even use that as a description on my webpage, althoough you never see it in any publications - I have seen CL1 used once or twice as Chris says...

I'll be getting new plates for my car here in Nevada, and started thinking about new personalized tags...... I still have my NJ tags on!

I would like to get custom plates for mine, but I have one of the old green plates for Mass, meaning I don't have to have a front plate won't give that one up for anything. So I guess I'll get a set for the "Z" as I have the newer red plates on that ,meaning you have to have both front and back
