Soft or hard water for car washing

I'm thinking of replumbing on the house to get soft water to wash cars . Is that the right thing to do ? Hard water spots badly but I was wondering if the salt in softened water has any ill effects . I found out it kills the he_ _ out of flowers . Cliff

I started a post about this myself. It looks like the results are 'use soft water to clean your Corvette'.

We have a water softener in our house and have a switch so that it doesn't go to the outside taps. I'm going to make sure that it's on and I use the soft water for the Corvette cleaning.
