Hi,

I own a -84 vette and the plan is turbocharge it. What could be better than looking at the Callaways for some ideas?

I will use my modyfied L83 for this. The injection is replaced with a Holley Commander 950 4 bbl TBI (with 4 x 85pph injectors). Goal is 500 hp at 5000-5500 rpm.

What I am interested to know is what kind of turbos that was used on the Callaways TT (I found info about IHI ??55, Garrett T3 and TB04B) A/R ratios, trims etc and also how the manifolds were done.

How are these engines to drive? The first year TT had max power at 3800 rpm - doest it mean that it "chokes" over that engine speed or what? When do get boost and how much maximum?

Has anyone upgraded to larger turbos? Result?

Best regards,

Morgan Nordin

There are a couple people here who have done upgrades to their cars - One owner in particular is changing MUCH of his Callaway from stock - Maybe he will chime in :confused

Here is a pic. of the exhaust for the turbo (courtesy of Turbo Luigi :m )

I am sure others can assist w/ your other questions - Good luck! :v

Due to the L98 intake manifold, all the power made by a Callaway will be lower rpm. its a torque monster not high rpm motor. the 88 and up b2ks did have larger turbos that would allow them to run slightly higher rpm, but again, the intake limits that greatly. My car makes 435rwhp/575rwtq before 4200rpm.

Hi,
Thanks for the input, more wanted!
How is the oil from the turbos handled? A scavange pump or do they sit high enough to rely on "gravity"

Best regards,

M Nordin

There is a scavange pump mounted on the serpentine tensioner.

One of the pulleys is utilized as a scavenge pump....

However, there are so many modifications from internals to small external details that I think it will be a very large, expensive, and time consuming project. I have seen some twin turbo attempts and none have even come close to what was accomplished by Callaway.

I never wish to discourage anyone however I want them to understand what it is that they are getting into.

Good Luck,

Luigi
