which I am hoping to get an answer to the first one asap, but if not I can get one later when a certain person wakes up, say around 1pm! LOL.
Anyway, we were working on the car last night and i was up near the radiator looking down and inside the tire wells was some rubber part that keeps it so you don't see the tire and brakes etc when looking straight down. Needless to say mine are gone. I want to order replacemens but I don't know what they are called.
Also I want to get a new water pump because as my bf says, we have everything off now and its the original one so might as well replace it. I am not sure if i should order rebuilt or not. I am thinking not and maybe getting an aluminum one. Also I am looking at getting new valve covers and not sure the most affordable venue for those, ebay, ecklers, summit, etc. The ones I have would require a lot of man hours to get them looking good and now that we have had the nice weather up here I am getting more anxious to just get finished. Thoughts???
Thank you :-)
Lori

Just a word of advice on the water pump make sure it is for a Corvette as they are a different legnth then most small block Chevys, don't let the parts house talk you into a generic one.
I have a Weiand Aluminum pump on my 76 works just fine stick to a known brand and you will be OK.
The Other question I don't know

the part around the upper A-arms is the inner dust shield

on the water pump, do you have reason to suspect it's bad? If not there is no real reason to replace it. your car is a lot newer than my '65 and I still have the original water pump on it and it's working great. Why spend the money needlessly when it can go for other items you may need.

valve covers typically run approx $125-$140 each so you are looking at between $250-$300 for a new set. Save a lot of money and refinish them yourself. Glass bead them to get all the old paint off and than a prime and paint them and they will look as good as new only for the cost of some rattle can paint.
I just did the covers on my '78 see here: Valve Covers

Aluminum Water Pump Resource

If you decide to replace your water pump, I found a good resource. I got my aluminum water pump from the guys at the Engine Store on eBay for about $60.

Here's their link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SBC-NEW-RACING-WATER-PUMP-GM-CHEVY-ALUMINUM-SBGM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33604QQitemZ8050465695

The water pump works great. I've bought other items from these guys, they deliver quickly, and respond quickly to questions. I have been completely satisfied with their products.
