I took my '85 out for a winter spin, and parked in a Mall lot. When I got back to my car, a 7(?) year old kid in the car next to me said that I had a 'cool car'. I almost flipped! Imagine an '85, still gets rants!! Great to leave an impression on a future corvette owner.:)

Isn't it great?

I was at a local bierfest last year when a group of people were walking through the parking lot. One women was asking her boyfriend what different cars were as they walked. When they got to my '82 she said "What's that thing?" They stopped and looked as I walked up and said " That's a 1982 Corvette".
Her boyfriend said to me "I hate you" to which I replied "Of course you do". They all laughed and kept walking.
I get the thumbs up from the kids along the road all the time. They know!

Class!!!

Just shows that there is still potential in our youth of today to recognize class. Any way you look at it, the corvette is a classy, sharp vehicle from the 50's to today.
Why would you be surprised at the kid's reaction? After all you drive the greatest car on earth!
keep smiling

See...some New Yawkers are smart. ;)

Why would you be surprized that the '85 still has it? I don't think there is any Corvette out there that can't still turn a head, if is well kept and proudly driven.

Don't ya just love it when cool comments come from a child's mouth and mind? :upthumbs

That good. I am a new C4 owner....well my '89 has a recently rebuilt motor and tranny but the car has almost 280k miles on it believe it or not. The car is in amazingly good condition for the miles....however the black paintjob is shiny enough but is either an earl shieb or homemade type! I got lost recently and turning down a culdesac where two little kids (maybe 5 or 7) yelled at the top of their little lungs "COOL CAR!" I looped around the culdesac to head out and they yelled it again only louder!

Ya, the kids DO know. I took my 9 yr. old to the autoshow last weekend, he id'd ALL the exotics and had conversations with the wsales guys that were WAY over my head. Me, I was just intimidated and kept my mouth shut and smiled ;LOL

He was kinda dissapointed that there wasn't a Mercialago (?sp). I wouldn't know one if it cut me off at the knees :L These kids play these video games, and they've got great graphics I quess, and of course all the stats! He must have sat in a hundred cars, opened the hoods on every damn one, it was fun to watch his excitement over and over. Meanwhile, six hrs. and I'm tired, but we saw everythging that was there.

When we were looking at the Nissans I think it was and he starts explaining to me that this 4 door plane jane looking thing is the base for the Skyline, the fastest production car (in the world) :confused

64 Plymouth, I loved old MOPAR metal... Especially the days of the HEMI.

My very first car (1965) was a black 48 plymouth 4dr, with a 55 Dodge Red Ram 331 Hemi with a 3 speed manual. Couldn't find an aftermarket shifter, so I built one with two pieces of angle Iron bent to form "Handles" pointing to each side (wrapped with black electricians tape). Used a 5/8 inch bolt with half a dozen washers between the angle iron handles, and a piece of 3/4 inch pipe on each side to the support pieces of more angle iron. On the level, I could start in 2nd, but it still would lay one heck of a patch, cause i would get it to move forward just a little bit, then slip the clutch, rev it up, then side step it.

Too bad that winter we had a snap of way below zero weather, what I had for anti-freeze was apparently too weak, cracked the block. Woulda been a neat car today.

I also get that quite a bit, from High school girls and guys, the grocery cart collector at the store and even the folks at the emissions testing here in phoenix

This happens to me all the time, people always come up to me and say "wow, that's a nice car".

The chef at the window of McDonalds announced my presence to his cronies and they came and thumbs-upped me. The C4 is the best looking in his opinion. 18 years old tops.

It was designed before his birth and still gets him going. Thanks Dave. Cool car.

The C4 is the best looking in my opinion but I am biased I supposed. It has understated styling that is very classy. Reminds me a little of the old Ferarri's from the 1960's.

Twice last evening I had people compliment me on mine: one was on a bicycle, he told me that it sounded good; another was beside me in traffic, in a big black, shiny Mercedes or BMW. He was drooling down the side of his car as he asked me about mine -- it appeared as though he really liked it. :L

???????????????????????

Are you sure he was 7 and not a dwarf???

Of course you vette was cool to him and a lot of other people too.

We may own them and drive them but many people would trade their new cars for your 85.

Also people have no idea how much they cost no matter how old they are.

Alan

I agree with you on the cost. People think that driving a C-4, is a 50 Thousand $ car :)

My friend always tells me how good it looks and last time asked, "What's it worth, about $25,000?"

"Sold!!!!" Maybe at Barret-Jackson.

My mom (who is from Bowling Green) thinks it's beautiful too and loves to ride. She grips for impact over 1500 rpms. It takes 5 minutes to get the old girl out over the door ledge. Cool car.
