Yesterday after work my grandson (19) asked to borrow the '65 to take his girlfriend out last night, and to a car show today. I agreed as he used the car last year for his senior prom. He's a very responsible young man. Talking to him today I could hear the pride in his voice as he described the feeling of being seen in and driving a '65 Vette. They didn't win anything in the show as he entered it in the most popular class, but he certainly didn't seem to mind! Got "warm and fuzzy" all over being able to share my hobbie with my grandson.

If you trust other selected people with your pride and joy the returns are great indeed. He appreciates the extending of the trust and I appreciate his excitement in the use of the car. I would highly recommend others to do the same.

What a great story. Thanks for sharing. Wish I had a grandfather that cool when I was a teenager. Sharing our love for cars with the younger generation is what it's all about, and having such a responsible grandson says alot about how you raised your children.

My two granddaughters (8 1/2 & 6) love to ride in my '58. Just the other day, the older one said "I could ride in this ALL DAY!" :D

My grandson returned the '65 this afternoon. He went "cruising" last night. Was asked a lot of questions he couldn't answer. Another guy got his camera out for 6 pictures. Another guy (driving a beat up pickup) said he wouldn't drive any car belonging to his grandfather, even a Corvette. My grandson replied "That's just as well because you can't drive this one either. But I can." Walking away smiling! Case closed. Is this a "CORVETTE ATTITUDE"
I think so!

I am 40 now and look foward to the day I can lend my grandson or grandaughter one of the vettes (just imagin my 02 may be considered a collector car by them)

Congradulations he must be a fine boy to be intrusted with such a treasure. And I am sure he is real proud to say its his grandpa's when he is asked

Excellent story, boogieman and congrats on having a classy grandson.

My grandfather's car was a classic Furd Granada when I was a teeny-bopper. Strangely, I never asked to borrow it. Instead, I drove my dad's 71 GMC pick-me-up... 292 ci six cylinder with a three-on-the-tree until I could afford my own toys.

Great story! I am having some remodeling done at my home and needed my garage space for storage and a work area. That meant my 'vette needed to find another space to rest between runs. I called my older brother and asked if he would pick it up and store it in his garage while the work is going on. He was thrilled to take care of my "problem."

My brother was my idol growing up because he had Muscle Cars that I could only dream about. He's responsible for my lifelong love affair with fast cars. He graduated high school in 1965 and watching him drive away in my '65 coupe with a big smile on his face gave me an awesome feeling. I've encouraged him to drive it while he's got it and he's happily taken me up on the offer. I still look up to him and thank the good Lord that I have a brother I can turn to whenever I need him.

my oldest is 15 and just waiting to drive 58.gran daughter 8 likes going to car shows with me we had 2000 cars at mission b.c. on fathers day one sat in avanti. girl sat in vett most of the day. :beer

the vette is one of the reasons im such a cool grandpa ,that and because i am a good grandpa anyway,if their responsible enough let em have it ....you can't take it with you ............

Great story.

My granddaughter is almost three and she loves to ride in the 65. She waves here arms in the air and says "Hi" to everyone we pass. The family refers to it as "her car" and I guess I do too. Her middle name is Sky....

My insurance carrier made me promise that nobody under 25 would drive the car. :(

My son (27) went with me to get my 93 40th ZR! and I called him on the cell from inside the Z on the way back. My wife was riding with me and I asked him if he wanted to try out the Z. He was driving my M/B S500 2 dr coupe behind us.

He said "No, I'd rather drive the M/B than ride in the Z", until I said "You're not gonna ride in it, you're gonna drive it!" We couldn't pull over fast enough. My wife drove the M/B, he drove the Z (with me at shotgun). I had let him drive my old 67 327/350hp coupe over 10 years ago but I think he had forgotten the feel until that day. When I have the "newer" 67 427/400 uo to snuff, he wants to take that one out, too! Great feeling, isn't it - to share the magic of the fiberglass!
By the way, Vette66AirCoupe,as I am an insurance agent, I can tell you that car policies are all written the same....named insured means; the named insured on the policy, resident spouse, any resident relative or any other person you give permission to drive your vehicle. Your policy may not be "rated" for an under 25 driver but you can give permission for any driver you wish.

My grandson is 7 months, and lives in Conneticuit. I hope as he grows, visits us in Virginia he will grow to love the Corvette as much as his Grand dad.... His father is only into golf and watching sports....I think he just might.

That is a wonderful story and really makes me wish my grandson grows into the love of the Corvette....:upthumbs
