Help!!!

I was out cruising to a client's site from my office today in my 2000 coupe when all heck broke loose. I started getting error messages in the DIC and the Check Engine and other lights came on. I pulled over as soon as I could and started copying down DTCs. With the number of codes (gotta be 40 or so) and the percentage of them that start with "U" (most), I'm guessing it has to be something electrical or computer-related.

The right-side door is completely unresponsive-- the window won't budge, the door lock switch won't work, the mirror doesn't move. The left door is doing some of the same, but not all the time. I was able to roll the right window up all the way and drive for a few hundred feet without errors to a gas station after clearing all the DTCs. One other thing I noticed is that I had started to roll up my windows (had them down to aid the A/C in getting rid of the hot air built up) when the right one stopped on its own about an inch from the top, and then I got all of the errors. Some of the error messages in the DIC are:

CHECK TIRE PRESSURE
SERV. TIRE MON. SYS
SHOCKS INOPERATIVE
REDUCED ENGINE POWER
SERVICE VEHICLE SOON
SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING
LOW FUEL

Here is the list of DTCs:

Some details about the car: It's a 6spd coupe with most of the available options: Active Handling, Selective Real-Time Damping, HUD, memory package. It just turned 70000 miles (and apparently decided to pout rather than celebrate!). I washed it on Saturday, but didn't get any excessive water under the hood or inside, and was able to drive it with no trouble Saturday night. Since I got it nearly a year ago, the seat movement with memory settings has been dodgy-- I usually have to manually scoot up the last little bit (I believe that's where the SCM B2187 comes from).

Does anyone know where I should start here? c4c5, seen this one before? I'm going to start looking through my service manuals, but if anybody has any thoughts or experiences with this, I'd be most grateful if you'd share.

Thanks,
Fred

HI there,
You have 2 clues that are very important here.
First, RDCM, NO COMM. This tells us that the door control module is not talking at all.
Second, the U1301 in SDM and TCS tells us that for some reason, there is more voltage on the communications line then there should be.
First suggestion, remove the 3 connectors from the passenger side door control module. You will NOT be able to use the power feature on the door, BUT, your problems may go away and NOT come back until you connect the door module again.
Next, clear all your codes, and let us know how you make out.
I am suspecting the door control module, but your test will help confirm this.

question for fhturner

I'm sorry to hear about you problems with your '00. I hope the responses that you get will help.

I am a new owner of an '01 coupe (my second 'vette) and any time I hear of these types of problems I get the jitters. I am not a wrench head (just a devoted 'vette lover and if I had that kind of problem, I wouldn't know what to do.

My question is, how did you clear the DTC's??? Also, did this probelm effect the drivability of the car?

I'm not sure about all the codes but, based on my past exposure to these types of problems. I would check your battery and make sure its not leaking. Most of the battery's leak after some time. Mine did and it was screwing up everything!! I had to replace the following because of it: Battery (of course), Alt, all the battery cables including the cables going to the starter and removing the PCM to perform MAJOR cleaning..

Just my two cents..

Thanks for the replies, guys!

c4c5, I suspect the RDCM as well, because of the "NO COMM" error, as well as the fact that I can almost make the problem come back at will by trying to lower the passenger side window. That said, I've only had the problem come back twice since the initial post. It is definitely just electrical/computer-related, as I ran my last 2 autocross "fun runs" with the darned thing "dinging" at me, yet still had my best 2 times of the day.

Also, a buddy of mine with a '99 is having the exact same problem, and you can open the passenger door to make the "NO COMM" error go away, but close it, and no more comm. So, seems to be a short or other electrical problem in the RDCM causing the whole system to freak out.

I will unhook the RDCM and see what happens. Unfortunately (for testing), the problem is currently intermittent. I'll see if I can goad it into flaring up by playing with the window switch. c4c5, can you give me any tips on how to disconnect the RDCM, or point me to the right place in my service manuals?

Thanks!
Fred

Hey Fred, just tug on the darm wires, who knows it may work !

Had a similar problem, the wiring harness inside the passanger door came loose and was snagged by the window when it came down I traced the loose wires to the connector at the passenger door

Open the door you will see a black flexable piece of rubber, the connector is inside, it just pulls away from each side You may have to gently pull the wiring to get to it

Thanks, rubber pulled away from door side with little effort, can not find connector inside rubber. By pulling on wires I am now making a good connection, door lights are now working, but for how long.

Will try again tomorrow

Fred, did you get your problem fixed? I have experience a LDCM communication problem that has caused the instrument panel to light up like yours.

my 2 cents

i just had the same problem i disconected my battery + cable it was loose maby where my problem started ?when i did that my lights and lock & unllock slarted working i tuged on wires on passanger door all is well once again:beer
