Hi folks,

Today I took the car to my mechabic to fix the rattle problem and it is done :). However he told me a few things that are needed for the car:

1. Exhaust is leaking from the driver side exhaust manifold and therefore an OEM (stock) manifold is needed. I could not locate the part at Ecklers and Art's Corvette Parts. Where do I find OEM or exact replica for 95 LT-1 ???

2. There is bearing noise coming from the accessory belt area. We replaced the alternator pulley bearing and the noise is still there. He told me I need the A/C pulleys. I guess better would be to replace all pulleys in that area. Again Ecklers & Art's have only the idler pulley. A/C Delco has only the idler & alternator pulley. Is there anyone who has the complete set???

Cheers,

Selim

First, finding Corvette parts from US sources that will ship to Turkey may be a problem, but I'm sure you have run into this before.

Sometimes an exhaust manifold can be welded to repair a leak. But if the manifold is warped, it may not be possible to repair it. For example, a hole in the manifold can be brazed closed. A warped mating surface at the cyliner head (may) be machined to become flat again. Sometimes adding an exhaust manifold gasket will solve a leak problem. Do you know exactly where the leak is coming from?

For the bearing noise, you might replace both the serpentine belt tensioner and the idler pulley. These are prety much hiden from view and they wil make noise when they wear. The A/C compressor is pretty much a non-rebuildable unit. The pulley is part of the clutch assembly and that component has a bearing on the pump shaft.

What is the noise like? High pitched squeal or a raspy noise like grinding? Does the sound stay the same regardless of engine RPM? Does it change when the A/C is operating? Does the noise change in volume or pitch when you turn the steering wheel?

You might want to see if you can find a mechanic's stethoscope to pinpoint the noise before you spend a lot of money replacing parts.

The exhaust manifold should be repairable as long as it's not too far gone.

Well well well. I have not tried what happens to the noise when I do different things but I notice the following:

1. There is no noise upon starting from cold.

2. The noise becomes evident when the engine runs for some time. Probably more than a few minutes.

3. Can not hear the noise at high engine rpm's due to engine noise :)

4. It is like an intermittent "shhhh" type thing, like what you would hear from a bearing.

5. It is less when idling and far more audible when starting the car from a complete stop; especially when the windows are down and there is no other noise around.

Hmmmm, so tell me where is it most likely coming from???

Cheers,

Selim
